Not all psychological treatments are equally effective.
When we take a drug, we believe that its effectiveness has been tested to see whether is it harmful, or if it is equal or more or less effective than not taking anything or take any other medication. No would take a drug that we do not know if it works or who have doubts or do not have enough information about its effects. Similarly we should behave with regard to psychological therapies.
Unlike established drugs on the market, most lack the psychological therapies available scientific evidence about its effects. Psychological interventions should be selected which are backed by the scientific community, supported by empirical evidence and a strict quality control and should be mandatory that therapists inform patients about the existence of such evidence and support in the therapy offered .
One proposal, to equal, choose the shortest and least expensive.
